Let the February Festivities Begin…

I was so glad to rip away the calendar page of January…too much down-time, if ya ask me…

February is my birthday month, and this is the first year I will celebrate with Samantha—she will be 1-year-old the day before I turn 63-years-old.  I like the number 63, especially the fact that it occurs the same year that we celebrate 36 years of marriage, and in 2016, another number evenly divisible by 3.  It seems a sign of magical adventures ahead.

That perky little observance aside, this getting old stuff sucks.

i thought growing old

I seem to sag more every day.  My skin in winter is like a dry sponge and my hair looks like I’ve touched a Van de Graaff generator.   Thank the gods for leggings and long sweaters,  warm scarves and cute hats.  We’ll make the best of it, you can bet.

There’s all kind of upcoming fun:  groundhog day, an antique book show, mardi gras, the orchid show at the Zoo, a play at UE, and all those birthdays.  Who’s up for lunch, out there?  We’ve got that Leap Day to enjoy, so leave me a note and we’ll plan some feasting.

Oh, how do you like my new computer?  Sleek, eh?

Tomorrow, be on the look-out for the MadWoman… she’ll be raving, I’m sure…

Scenes from an 80th birthday party…

Peaceful Valley, North Carolina…  Thanks to our hostess, Natalie, earth-mother extraordinaire, who loaded up the tables with food, provided the scenic views, and welcomed us warmly to celebrate her mawmaw’s 80th birthday party…

The birthday girl held court for her 5 children, her only-surviving brother,  4 nieces/nephews and their spouses, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, plus a dozen or so shirt-tail relatives, many of whom drove 6plus hours to say, “I love you.”…

Family…it’s not always this pretty, so let’s enjoy the times when it is.  I hope I have as nice a celebration on my 80th.

Breaking News!!!

Samantha Mayne Casey, my 4th granddaughter, was born today 2/22/15…   She weighs 7lbs 5oz, is 19inches tall.

There was a glitch at her birth, and she is in Neonatal Intensive Care for a couple of days.  It’s breaking all of our hearts to be unable to hold her, but we’re all positive that she will be in our arms soon.

Happy birthday, Samantha…

Casey’s birthday #60…

He is my beloved husband, my best friend, the love of my life.   Wait, that’s about me…   Okay, he is a great guy, a good man.    He was born 60 years ago today.  Let’s celebrate!

DSC_0004We met the Jrs. for lunch at Applebee’s, then ran into Kohl’s to buy some Birthday-flannels…   He’s outside hanging up the Christmas lights now and I’m getting ready to take a nap in his honor…

Happy birthday, Casey!  I love you forever and ever and always…

Or so it seems…

We had a great birthday week-end.  Thanks for your kind wishes.  Many of you are like me, scratching your head and asking, “where have the years gone?”  This poem says it better than I can…

Time Enough

by Dennis O’Driscoll

The tally of years
added up so rapidly
it appeared I had
been short-changed,
tricked by sleight
of hand, fallen victim
to false bookkeeping.

Yet when I checked
my records, each
and every year had
been accounted for,
down to the last day,
and could be audited
against old diary entries
(client briefings,
dental check-ups,
parent-teacher meetings,
wedding anniversaries),
verified with credit
card statements
(multi-trip insurance,
antibiotics, concert bookings,
mobile top-ups).

And, although
nagging doubts
remained—an
inkling that I had
been ripped off
in some way,
given short shrift,
made to live at an
accelerated pace,
rushed through
my routines with
unseemly haste—
nothing could be proved,
no hard and fast
statistics adduced.

I had, it seems,
unknown to me,
been living my
life to the full.

Onward to Spring..it’s only 24 days away!!

The games have begun…

What a fortuitous beginning to BirthdayFest 2014:  I “won” tickets to the Gov’t Mule concert.  Actually, Sister and I met up for some birthday appetizers at Backstage, my personal favorite bar in EVV.  As the manager was serving our food, I said, “hey, why didn’t I win those tickets yesterday?” and he said, “you want some?”  and I got ’em.  ( I also had a great visit with Donna)

I really love this band, with their Allman Bros. roots and Dead-esque style.   We were appropriately buzzed…

We’ve slept it off, now, and we’re ready to start again on a Beautiful Sunny Day..!  I really am God’s little pet….
