Camp compendium

It’s been a wonderful 2 weeks of Camp Sonnystone…make-it-and-bake-it, painting canvasses and birdhouses, tie-dying, music, and baking cookie-pops.  After we finished up all of our crafts, we visited the zoo and the museum, played mini-golf, and learned how to bet the horses at Ellis Park.  …  Here’s a look back…

Singing and Dancing…

Every year we make a sign with our handprints on it…actually, not mine…  Last year we used Samantha’s footprint, but this year she thinks she’s a Big Girl, so we had her dip her hand in paint just like the Big Girls Do…

Our Theme this year was Dream.  Our motto was “If you can dream it, you can do it” (Walt Disney).  The new sign joined the other years’ efforts:  Peace, Love, and Joy.

Our Theme song is always the Camp Sonnystone Welcome Song, but we added a couple of new ones:  When you Wish Upon a Star, accompanied by piano.  From our handy-dandy YouTube, we added a couple of songs that required creative choreography:  Hall of Fame (The Script), and Try Everything (Shakira).

I love sharing Music and Dancing with the Kids.  Keeps me young… Except I threw my back out on Friday and am spending a bit of time each day with my heating pad and some ibuprofen…

Dance on, Friends….

Camping with the Kids…

We arrived at Lake Rudolph in the oppressive heat, wilting, but still smiling.  The pool was wonderful, the golf cart was a real hit, and we celebrated Emma’s half-birthday with s’mores…

The next morning the Jrs met up with us and we headed over to Holiday World early.  We managed to ride the carousel, the train, and meet Santa within the first 2 hours of our arrival…

Then the thunderstorms arrived and shut down the park…really.  We were stuck in the gift shop for nearly an hour as the sky emptied and the thunder rolled.  In a park full of roller coasters, this means they don’t run.  We managed to enjoy our wait…

When the park shuts down for more than an hour, they give you tickets to return at another time, either that evening or another day.  Though the rain let up later that afternoon, we opted to go back another day—hopefully one that is a little less humid, if that ever occurs.   We filled out our day playing mini-golf…

Even though our park visit was cut short, it was still a full day.  We swam some more, had more s’mores, and drove the golf cart everywhere…

We have started our Camp Activities–Music includes our perennial Theme Song “Welcome to Camp Sonnystone”, and “Hall of Fame” with choreography.  Today we made flower crowns and tomorrow we’ll do Make-it and Bake-it…so stay tuned.

Peace, people…
