Another Birthday month is put to rest.  It’s been fun, don’t you agree?   Let’s have a last happy hour with some Margaritas…

Peace.   Out.

Or so it seems…

We had a great birthday week-end.  Thanks for your kind wishes.  Many of you are like me, scratching your head and asking, “where have the years gone?”  This poem says it better than I can…

Time Enough

by Dennis O’Driscoll

The tally of years
added up so rapidly
it appeared I had
been short-changed,
tricked by sleight
of hand, fallen victim
to false bookkeeping.

Yet when I checked
my records, each
and every year had
been accounted for,
down to the last day,
and could be audited
against old diary entries
(client briefings,
dental check-ups,
parent-teacher meetings,
wedding anniversaries),
verified with credit
card statements
(multi-trip insurance,
antibiotics, concert bookings,
mobile top-ups).

And, although
nagging doubts
remained—an
inkling that I had
been ripped off
in some way,
given short shrift,
made to live at an
accelerated pace,
rushed through
my routines with
unseemly haste—
nothing could be proved,
no hard and fast
statistics adduced.

I had, it seems,
unknown to me,
been living my
life to the full.

Onward to Spring..it’s only 24 days away!!

The games have begun…

What a fortuitous beginning to BirthdayFest 2014:  I “won” tickets to the Gov’t Mule concert.  Actually, Sister and I met up for some birthday appetizers at Backstage, my personal favorite bar in EVV.  As the manager was serving our food, I said, “hey, why didn’t I win those tickets yesterday?” and he said, “you want some?”  and I got ’em.  ( I also had a great visit with Donna)

I really love this band, with their Allman Bros. roots and Dead-esque style.   We were appropriately buzzed…

We’ve slept it off, now, and we’re ready to start again on a Beautiful Sunny Day..!  I really am God’s little pet….

Reporting in…

I have been writing a blog entry over at Madwoman for days–nay, a week now..!  It is an Intro to my birthday celebration, but it turned into a study of 1953, the sacred year of my birth.   Who would have predicted, back then, that I’d be using Wikipedia to research every aspect of the culture, then downloading  it from YouTube?  It is fascinating to view the old TV series, listen to the old music, while watching the old movies on DVD or Netflix.  The essay has been edited 25+ times, media has been added and subtracted, and I still can’t bring myself to post it…  Not sure why.  That’s where I’ve been…well, there and

I’ve been hitting the doctor office and labs and have more scheduled.  So far, I’m in pretty good shape for an old broad.  I have a few more procedures to look forward to, but I’m trying to get it all done before Spring Break (last week in March).

We got a new TV, larger. and I’ve been watching the Olympics.  It’s been a little painful, really.

(And what are These Guys Doing??)

what

(huh?)

I’m liking the Yoga. I’ve completed the intro sessions and looking for a class that fit my ability and my schedule.  I hope I’ll be continuing.

The school corporation is making up the last snow day by adding an extra hour to the school day for 6 days;  I wish they’d do this with All of the days and give us back our April days off.  Unlikely.  My hours at work will change some for those 6 days, but I’ve rather given up on controlling this weather-related crap.  It’s crazy…  Tonight we got a phone call warning us that school may have to dismiss early tomorrow due to the threat of Tornadoes…..yes, Tornadoes…  What next?   Makes me long for the good-old-days when the weather was a little more predictable:

But here it is, the birthday week-end looming, large as life.    Months ago, I told Casey that we’d celebrate the b-day on March 1 when we’ll be traveling to Nashville for the Lawn & Garden Show/ Wine Fest.  HaHaHaHa!!  You know me better than that!!   I still don’t have anything planned, though, so I’m nervously re-arranging shelves…  I have decided to watch “Roman Holiday” as a representative 1953 movie, and to read “Giant” to honor the memorable year.   Other than that, I’m not sure…but

We’ll come up with something, so check back….

oh, and if you’re up for a short walk down memory lane,  visit http://www.raveonmadwoman.wordpress.com/ to view what’s left of the much-edited (posted at last!) Intro to the Birthday…

Happy Hour…Yesterday

In Uncategorized on February 14, 2014 at 3:32 pm

I had a feeling…  Casey is out clearing roads on this Valentine’s Day Friday, so we had our cocktails yesterday…Thirsty Thursday, we’ll call it.

I expected blueberry-infused vodka to turn blue, wouldn’t you?

The purply-pink color was perfect for a Valentine Drink;  those boozeberries are excellent, too…

We don’t consistently do a lot on 2/14.  Some years there have been flowers or candy, and one year he bought me a greenhouse!  But he’s my sweetheart every day, so what’s this day over another?

The sentiment is the same:  Drink up!

Are you watching the Games?  You really should…

I have never wanted to be an athlete of Any Kind.  It’s not Just that I have no discipline, but also that I might get hurt.  I admire so much the fearlessness of the Olympic Heroes; their hard work and the aforementioned discipline that consumes them stirs something inside all of us.  Come on, don’t tell me you don’t cry, whether  they’re standing on the podium, or if they blow it with one little mistake…

If you haven’t paid enough attention to cry, just use this little ad as a primer…

Now turn on the coverage…  (say what you will about Russia, their costumes are the Best)

First February Friday

In Uncategorized on February 7, 2014 at 6:32 pm

February Fridays are for forgetting about the frostquake booms and the frozen fog.  We’re going to have cocktails!

Today’s drink special:

Strawberry-infused vodka martinis

DSC_0004I

Last Friday I filled up a mason jar with fresh strawberries, poured in a pint of vodka and let it sit.   I should have taken some pictures of the the fresh mix, because within 3 days all the color had drained from the berries and they looked like something dead.  After I filtered out the yuk, the pink vodka was darling and pretty tasty, too.  These little martinis were made with some strawberry water…shaken, not stirred.

 Here’s to a wonderful week-end!

Who knew?

In Uncategorized on February 3, 2014 at 6:23 pm

Who knew that Yoga could hurt so much?  Why didn’t you tell me??

ooph, I’m feeling my legs and shoulders today and it hurts so good.  I’ve discovered that I’ve been doing the Sun Salute wrong all these years;  the old way was much easier…  It definitely helps to have someone make you hold the poses, whereas I was rolling through them pretty quickly before.  I shouldn’t have pushed myself, though, because now I’m not feeling too keen to practice them…

Winter has gone all wintry on us again and there’s nothing to be done but hunker down and keep the fire burning.  I saw the eye doctor (new bifocal contact lens) and the MD last week (getting labs drawn tomorrow), so I’ve pretty much no place to go.

Did I tell you that I recently purchased a Kindle Fire HD?  I started e-reading with the Original Kindle, then switched over to Nook a couple of years ago.  I wanted to use the Amazon amenities like Kindle Singles and lower prices on nearly all the books, but was also hoping that a larger screen would be easier on my eyes.     I bought the 8.9″ and it is kinda of heavy, not too portable.  But I do love the Amazon prices and shopping.   (Bargain-brag:  I used coupons and discover points to buy and only paid $75)

Oh, yes, the shopping…  And since there’s yet another storm on the way, I’ll be taking advantage of Prime to spend that overtime that Casey’s out earning.   Really…  a girl’s gotta have fairies…and fairy benches…and teeny-weeny little fairy pets.

Be careful…it’s slick out.
