okay, seriously..,

It feels to me that the school-year should be about half-way finished… I thought August would never end, but September has lasted so long I thought I was going to have to ambulance it in for emergency medical treatment.   I lost 2 week-ends to illness, so my weeks have been full, but I feel like I’ve forgotten something—-oh, yeah, I forgot to have fun.   It’s been too much housework and yard chores and not enough loud music and laugh-dancing.  We’re going to make up for it in October…

Ahhh, October!!  Doesn’t that just sound like pumpkins?  And campfires?  And spooks?  We’re planning Spook Walk II for the 26th, but before then we’ll take a little trip…

I did Not buy a new camera.  It seems that the lens I bought wouldn’t have worked on the one I planned to buy, so I returned it to Amazon, never mind.

I did Not fix my hair.  I’m afraid it will fall out.  In the meantime, I’m taking it as some lesson to be learned, not sure which one:  a) Communicate!!  People cannot Read Your Mind!  b) Make up Your Mind!  c) Who cares?

On that note, I must sign off.  It’s the last day of September, 2013.  I’ll start again tomorrow…it’s Oktoberfest…

P.s.  If you are snickering about the position of the 2 scarecrows at the top of the page…well, you are just sick…   (Have a great day, anyway)

another week done gone

Tuesday was my older sister’s birthday…she’s the pretty one, I’m the smart one—or is it the other way around?  Actually, we look more alike every year and our IQ’s are within 1 point of one another’s;  she IS the good one, though…goody-goody-two-shoes.   I love her dearly, more than ever since we wised up…  We had lunch down on Franklin St. at Smitty’s on Wednesday…

I’m beginning to get caught up with the lists I had to forego during my illnesses…so I made an appointment to get a haircut/color and such for Thursday.  I am, as usual, making excuses for my hairdresser completely misunderstanding my request:  I said, “remember, I don’t want it tooo blonde…sort of caramel, like yours”.  She gave me hair that is exactly her color—a light brown with very few caramel highlights.   I called to get it blonded up on Saturday, but decided that I should stop and take a breath.   Maybe it Is my fault that I end up with bad cuts and weird colors when I keep going to hairdressers that are just out of beauty school..

I’m in the market for a new hairdresser, a mature, experienced person who can help me figure out what I mean when I say “not too blonde”.  Any ideas?

Another little mess I made this week:  I ordered a 50mm lens for my camera.  That sounds like a great idea, huh?  But, actually, I already have one that my daughter gave me when I first bought the Nikon, lo those many years ago.  I never used it because my camera doesn’t have autofocus capability for it…and it still doesn’t, by the way…   After discussing the situation with Melissa, she has urged me to buy a new camera…!    Great idea!  I’m researching and hope to make a purchase soon.

The weather is perfect for pumpkins and mums.  We bought several pumpkins at Ronnie’s today and we’ve gotten out the harvest decorations for inside and out.   I love this time of year.  I’ll be catching up the garden blog this week—REALLY…   Till then, have a great week!

It’s that time of year…

The oppressive heat was defeated by an incoming cold front, breaking down the temperatures from 95 to 75, lowering the humidity and puffing up the clouds.   It’s a welcome change.  Yes.

There’s always another side, even to a beautiful day.  I began to sneeze, 3-4 in a row in the afternoon;  by evening, my throat felt like a razor blade and my head was throbbing around my eyes…that’s right..the Dreaded Snot of seasonal allergies.   It starts out thin and runny, then begins to jam up your nasal sinuses and obstruct the  eustachian tubes until your entire head is full of  thick, wet, mucous.  To make matters worse, I didn’t have any of my  personal standby, Allegra, so I dug up some old Benadryl, evidently too old to actually work. because I had a miserable Friday night.  Saturday morning,  I decided to start with the Sudafed we had around and that was a flawed decision, to say the least.  By the time I had nursed myself through three every-four-hour doses, my heart was racing, my stomach was bolting, and the headache, snot, and sore throat were as awful as ever.    I spent the night coughing, wheezing, and throwing up…ready to write my will.  This morning, Casey went down to CVS and bought some Allegra and voila!  Now I am just another clogged cranium walking around with kleenex up my nose…but at least I’m walking.

Last week was a busy one:  I took Olivia to and from school a couple of days;  Sister and I did our sing-a-long;  My school broke ground for our new gym and all the bigwigs and TV stations were out,  Here’s what else has been happening here at Sonnystone…

The 98% finished room…

We’ve got the furniture put back into our freshly carpeted room, and nearly everything on our newly painted walls.   (I have a rather inspired idea for behind the couch, but it will take a while)

The stereo is back…

The last several months I’ve listened mostly to music from my computer, using cheap speakers and/or headphones, and I’m just Not Feeling it.    Even Melissa had noticed that the listening music was a little under-represented during her visit.  Since it’s an essential component of my personal well-being, music, played loud from speakers that have some decent bass/woofers,  has made a comeback…

I guess I’m going to have to break down and buy those CD’s I downloaded from the library…the cognitive dissonance is getting to me…(is it stealing? or just borrowing?)

Harvesting…

This should probably be over on the gardening blog…  We brought in the tomatoes and the basil before I was laid low by the Snot.  I’m feeling almost well enough to get out and pull in the sunflowers and rearrange the front perennials (that will be on the garden blog!)

Get ready for some pesto, friend…

Sneak Preview…

While I’ve whined and swigged toddies, Casey has been planting trees!!!    We bought a tulip poplar and a heritage river birch and he’s just about got them in the ground…

That just about catches us up…

Even the smallest act of service, the simplest act of kindness, is a way to honor those we lost; a way to reclaim that spirit of unity that followed 9/11…                                                                                                                                                                                                           ….
