49, 50, 51…

Monday evening I watched Chicago (2002) while Casey was at his Scout meeting.  Lana and I recently saw this onstage and it is one of her favorite movies/musicals.  I love it, too, and especially this movie version, because I think Renee Zellweger is just dang cute and Catherine Zeta-Jones is perfectly beautiful.  Remember the last musical that won Best was back in the 60’s, so I was glad to watch it, dancing and singing and all that jazz.

The 2003 winner Lord of the Rings:  The Return of the King , was part III of the trilogy and should be viewed along with the other two.  (and also, them’s some LONNGGAASSS movies)…  So I’ll make that a project for the later on.

Up next was Million Dollar Baby (2004)…Oh, dear, another one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.  I realize that not watching sad movies has been keeping me from seeing these good ones and I’m going to change that rule.   Even though it involves boxing, this is not a  violent movie.   Hilary Swank  surely did deserve the Best Actress Oscar that year.  Morgan Freeman won Best Supporting;  Clint Eastwood lost the Best Actor, but won Best Director.  It is the story of Maggie Fitzgerald, a scrappy gal from a horrible white-trash family who makes it to the World Championship Boxing Arena after wearing down a gruff (but lovable) trainer who “doesn’t train girls”.  It’s also the story of Real love and friendship and I just cried…  Excellent.

Can you believe we only have 7 more to watch??
