…hooked to the olympics

In Uncategorized on July 30, 2012 at 9:57 pm

wow, i’ve really been neglectful of my faithful followers…guilty as charged, but as you can see, i’ve moved a little bit of Stuff around:

7/26/12…before

7/30/12 — after

we’ve had to move a Lot of furniture upstairs…out of sight out of mind…so the office-eating-tv-watching room had a total makover:

it’s been a slow process because i got hooked on the olympics…i don’t usually care about sports, you know, but there’s something i Loove about the olympic games.  every 4 years i become an expert judge of gymnastics and diving;  the sheer absurdity of some of the sports make them more what i expect of a “game”:  from fencing to beach volleyball, i can’t seem to stop watching.  but, of course, there’s the pomp and ritual in the opening ceremonies…lighting the cauldron begs for drama and we certainly got it, but the juxtaposition of pink floyd’s eclipse with the beatles’ and in the end (even though sir paul was a little warbly) was brilliant.  seriously, check it out on youtube.

i’m countin’ ’em on down to the first day of school now…first day is 8/15.  i feel a little pressured to relax while i can…watch the olympics and play the piano…

what a mess…

the carpet is to be installed this friday at 9am…casey is in charge of moving the furniture off of the old stuff, pulling it up, pulling the quarter-round off the trim and painting it.  i’m in charge of…well, i’m the assistant…actually, i’m just trying not to lose my mind in the midst of this chaos.  i continue to maintain the exterior, as noted over at my garden blog, but i can only practice patience until friday evening, at which time i’ve got a helluva lot of cleaning to do…  you know how it is when you move large pieces of furniture–there is megadustdirt and general filth exposed.  ughh..

kinda like the jackson family mess…i’m rather obsessed with their drama right now.  janet has let me down, but paris and the 2 princes are my new heroes.  (and all the titos, too).  nice diversion…

the baby is grand…

In Uncategorized on July 23, 2012 at 10:17 pm

she’s here, my 1931 stroud baby grand, awesome, not at all what i expected, even better.

it is so different to play…the music stand is farther away or something and it feels like the keyboard is higher.  it sounds just wonderful already, but i’ll get it tuned up and it will be ready for a concert.!

breaking fast

In Uncategorized on July 22, 2012 at 9:05 am

thank the lord for watermelon…i managed to stay on the fasting wagon last evening after eating a half-watermelon with a spoon while blending the other half with some peaches and oranges…figuring by noon i’ve been 60 hours with just liquid sustenance, i’m carrying in a turkey sandwich to work…and i’ll help myself to those dollar-beers, thank-you.   all i’ve gotten out of this is  excess pissing and griping rights…

re-evaluating the fasstt

In Uncategorized on July 20, 2012 at 7:02 pm

actually, fasts are very slow.  it’s been 21 hours and it seems like that’s about enough…i’m starving…this morning’s fruitblend was actually quite tasty—except i didn’t know those cherries had pits when i added them…  the vegetableblend, however, isn’t so hot…cucumber, tomatoes, bell pepper, spinach, basil, and tomato juice…it’s a little overveggied for me.  since i said in print that i would fast for 3 days, i feel somewhat obligated to live up to my commitment…sort of.  i’m thinking 36 hours is fine, a real sacrifice, proof of my discipline…  and besides, if you’re using me for a role model you need help…

i’m going to avoid the craving by hitting the sack early tonight–maybe i’ll feel differently in the morning.  (i think i could last a little longer if ice cream were considered juice)…

3 days…trips and hallucinations

In Uncategorized on July 19, 2012 at 9:03 pm

tuesday i drove over to west frankfort for aunt almeda’s funeral.  when her husband, uncle stanley, died i had a nightmare drive with a pregnant sister d that ended with me in a tow-truck trying to buy a tire on sunday and donna being dropped off of an 18-wheeler after his funeral.  don’t ask.  so i was beginning to think i was doomed…  i was going 62west to catch I64 to I57 when the state police shut down 62 for a wreck;  i u-turned to hwy65 to pick up I64, losing a half-hour.  i then had to stop and use the bathroom at the IL rest stop this side of the grayville exit.  that prompted me to get sentimental and take IL1 through carmi and IL14 west…for old time’s sake…fool that i am.  seems illinois (please don’t pronounce that s) highway department actually works in the heat!.  i was stopped for over 10 minutes, twice, watching the guys roll back and forth over the asphalt…   i made it, though, and it was a beautiful ceremony.   it’s sad to think about it…

…so i’ve been getting ready for the new piano, due to arrive monday afternoon.  casey finished up the radiator covers and they look lovely.   we ordered new carpet last week, supposed to be here in 7-10 business days, so i’m piddling around taking the misc. off of the shelves that have to be moved, taking a lot of stuff upstairs.   before i put anything back, i’m going to give it serious thought.

i’m feeling so lazy and stuffed that i’ve decided to…do a 3-day juice fast…or my version.  i’m not sure i can actually go without coffee and i’ve heard that one’s tummy gets quite rumbly, but i’m going to give it my best effort. …i wonder if 3 days is long enough to make me hallucinate??  there’s a tv preacher who looves to fast and he pants around seeing visions and dreaming that he’s a prophet…that would be cool, sort of motivating…

i’m really just trying to give my liver a break…

the queen of country music

In Uncategorized on July 16, 2012 at 10:02 pm

miss kitty wells, queen of country music, died today, age 92.  my grandma eaton had an old brown record-player and 2 albums that i remember playing:  sing-along with mitch and a kitty wells album.  i did some intricate chroreography to mitch’s “side by side” that included some real mean moves for ronna and me; and i listened to “it wasn’t god who made honky-tonk angels” from the kitty wells album.  while mulling that memory, wondering if there had been a jim reeves album, too, with a version of “the great speckled bird”, i realized that honky-tonk angels, great speckled bird (what a beautiful thought i am thinking) , and “i am thinking tonight of my blue eyes” are essentially the same tune, different lyrics.   i’ll never sort these memories out…   but i remember the kitty album, staring at the cover of her with her Large helmet-hair and listening to her twangy-country voice singing about cheating men…or was it something about a bird???   rip miss kitty…

last night’s concert was really fine…the new ford center really has a good sound and of course the music was superb.  very mellow.

i’ve spent the day doing the things i’ve been putting off and even though the day started a bit wobbly when a hose blew at the reitz home,  i did manage to get everything caught up.  also got a haircut…

i harvested a few tomatoes today…
