Huge sigh of relief…

In Uncategorized on September 25, 2011 at 8:26 pm

the new pastor is safely installed…the church was packed…the service was moving and the music was, too.  now i can think about something else…

casey and jr are out putting high water signs up on 57.  that’s just so cute—them working together…even though getting drenched on a dark highway isn’t what they’d call cute, but i’m sure they’re enjoying being around each other again.  maybe it’s just sweet.

let’s talk spook walk…when the rain stops i’ve got to get down into the woods and see what we’ve got to work with this year…there’s still a lot of trees down from the Big Wind and that could make it spookier than ever.  i hope the weather and our schedules co-operate.

can’t stop it…i’m still thinking that today was a Great Day for Trinity-Darmstadt…i’m so honored that i got to be a part of it….

the elusive week-end…

In Uncategorized on September 19, 2011 at 7:32 am

elusive, as in difficult to find or catch…or as in difficult to recall or remember??  well, both.  it just keeps flying by as we prepare for our new pastor’s installation.

the chicken supper pushed me off the dieting ledge and was well-worth it, especially the dumplings and desserts (Real cream-cheese icing on that carrot cake, thick).  i saw lots of old friends—hello, debbie and dave!–and to answer the burning questiong:  what do i do in my spare time?  i managed to change out the curtains in the room-that-has-no-name-but-functions-as-an-office-and-tv/eating-area….

saturday was my older, smaller sister donna’s birthday—one of those landmark birthdays that we’re rationalizing and trying to ignore.  but not ignore as in no presents…so we met up for a while on sunday to make the exchange and take some time to talk.  having a sister is such a blessing and i’ve got a good ‘un.   since she’s just 17-months older than me, i hate to see her age because i’m right behind her….

the pastor will be here to join us at choir rehearsal this thursday;  i think we’re about done changing the music, but i wouldn’t print that bulletin just yet…  i’m at about 90% immunization compliance at PH, so my work’s cut out for me there.   any spare time i find this week will be spent shopping for a new dress—must keep up appearances.

carry on…love is coming….to us all…

small mention of adolescence…

In Uncategorized on September 13, 2011 at 4:56 pm

i’ve been meaning to write for several days now…took some pictures of the last-day at ellis and that would have made a great post…9/11 seemed like an appropriate time to eloquently extol the emotions evolving since that horrible day…but here i am just wondering what to say…

it wasn’t such a great day at work…adolescents…how did we ever survive all that???  oh, maybe you had one of those great experiences, but mine wasn’t so hot.  it’s such a confusing confounding time of life.   at any rate, i try to help and hope that effort may make a small difference in some of these kids’ lives.

so it’s been just that:  working and waiting, wondering and watching what happens.  i’ll compose something more exciting later…

my baby turned 30 on saturday…

In Uncategorized on September 5, 2011 at 10:41 am

we were planning on a day at the races yesterday…dollar day, to boot…and mikey and his family were coming on out around the 5th race, then coming home with me for a meal.  so why not, i thought to myself, have a little surprise waiting for him when he arrived from ellis?  i called my 3-person on-call guestlist (donna, lauren, and ali) and they were happy to come over and set things up, then jump out yelling “surprise” when we arrived.  i made up a meat and cheese tray, added some bbq grippos and tostitos, 2 dozen cupcakes, beer and water and oila! we were ready…….

except it stormed all morning and most of the afternoon…the crowd at ellis park was unbelievable—more than i’ve ever seen, complete with crazy parking and no place to sit or stand in the rain, delays….crazycrazy.  it would have been a great surprise, but i had to cancel…michael seemed grateful that i’d had the idea and maybe a little grateful that it didn’t pan out…

plus+ he didn't have to share the grippos

happy birthday #30 to you, dear michael.  your mama and daddy love you.

he did have to share the cupcakes...
